Open access has been the harbinger of scholarly freedom. Various kinds of open access are available in the age of the internet, like the gold open access through open access journals and the green open access through open access repositories. Open access resources have been proven to be important for scientific research. This research aims to use an Open Access Friendliness Indicator (OAFI) to rank the 7 Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) on the basis of open access friendliness. This research considers 4 areas of importance: open access publication, open access licensing, citation counts, and altmetric attention as the base of the framework. It uses open source software OpenRefine and some ODbL data sources to work on and fetch data, using data carpentry. As per the ranking, the IISER Berhampore stands at the top rank, followed by IISER Tirupati, while IISER Bhopal stands at the end of the list. This research also examines the general growth patterns of OA among the IISERs.
